
Step 1. Select a shapely apple that is free of spots, dents, and any other imperfections.

Step 2. Slice the part of the apple off that you would like to be the bottom. Save this slice you will need it to carve the swans head.

Step 3. Cut three to five wedges out of the apple on the right side of the apple. Keep the wedges in order as they will be used for the right wing.

Step 4. Cut out three to five wedges in the middle of the apple as well as the left side. Remember to keep your wedges together in order as you will be using them for the tail feathers and wings.

Step 5. Carve the Swans head out of the slice from Step 1.

Step 6. Place the wedges were you sliced them from in reverse order (last sliced to first sliced) in the appropriate holes. Slide the wedges back to give the desired effect.
Step 7. Attach the head with a toothpick or by cutting out a space to attach the head.

Note to prevent the swan from turning brown, squeeze some lemon juice over the swan or soak the pieces in lemon water before assembling.
